He married Mary Wright on December 10, 1685, at Wethersfield, Hartford County, Connecticut.
Birth and death were in British Colonial America, not the USA.
Queen Anne's War - Capt. Robbin's Co.
"In 1772, he [Rev. Joshua Belden] corrected the erroneous orthography of the family name, from Belding to Belden, at the suggestion of Col. Elish[a] Williams, then Town Clerk. The Colonel showed him from the records, an original signature of the first John, where the name was spelled as it now is. He effected the change by addressing a Circular, requesting the correction, to all of the names, of whom he had knowledge; and it was at once, very generally complied with, very few thereafter spelling the name Belding, although there are still a few who adhere to the corrupt spelling. He died, July 23, 1813, in a good old age, and ripe for eternity." -- From "Catalogue of the Names of the First Puritan Settlers of Connecticut"
