William was the son of John Weed Captain b: 28 Apr 1764/1765 in Norwalk, Fairfield Co., Connecticut and Mary Townsend b: 30 Jul 1762


William Weed married 1806 in Rupert, Bennington Co., Vermont, Cynthia Phillips when she was 19 and he 22 , Cynthia died at age 36, leaving William with several small children. Her oldest sons, Elihu Phillips (known as E.P.) Weed and Seeley Sherman Weed were only 15 and 16 years old; the youngest daughter was 5. William married Freelove (Thankful) Parker the following year. William Weed and his son, Elihu Phillips Weed went to Illinois as early as 1841. William bought (through Federal Land Sale) 40 acres of land in White County, Illinois on 25 Feb 1841 and another 40 acres on 7 Aug 1844. He would have been 57 years of age at the time of his first purchase. Elihu purchased 160 acres in Lake County near Waukegon from 1842 to 1844.
