Joseph Harrison, 56, Excelsior Springs, died July 6 2007 at St. Luke's Hospital, surrounded by his loving family during his final hours. Born August 29 1950 in Salina KS, he was a son of Charles L Harrison & Jerre Lee "Birdlegs" Cooper Harrison Damker.
Joe is survived by his wife Connie (Green) Harrison of the home, his daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Eric Shumate, and grandchildren Anthony and Brooklyn Shumate, all of Excelsior Springs, and brother, Lee Harrison and wife Connie of Belton MO.
He was preceeded in death by his parents and brother, James R Harrison. He was a favorite "Uncle Joe" of many nieces and nephews and leaves behind a host of friends and loved ones. Joe graduated from Excelsior Springs High School in 1968. He served in the US Army for nearly 2 years at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC. After 30 years, he retired from the Missouri Division of Employment Security. He enjoyed Harleys, dune buggies, fishing, golfing, and woodworking, however his favorite past time was grandparenting. Joe met the challenges of life with grace and has been sustained by his faith in Jesus Christ, his Savior. Over the years, he has served in many church families in various capacities and is a member of the Prathersville Bible Church.

Joe met the challenges of his life with grace and has been sustained by his faith in Jesus Christ, his Savior. A first viewing was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 9, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Visitation was scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m., all at First Baptist Church of Kearney. Burial with military honors is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Higginsville City Cemetery in Higginsville MO. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, (816) 630-3388.
