PITTSBURG, Kan. — James H. Bevans, 75, Pittsburg, was found dead about 6 p.m. Friday after an illness of two years.


Mr. Bevans was born July 4, 1917, in Webb City, Mo.


He attended schools in Weir. He had lived Pittsburg since 1953. He formerly lived in Medicine Lodge and Pratt. He was a yard foreman for W.S. Dickey Clay Manufacturing Co., Pittsburg, for 10 years until he retired in 1979. He previously worked as a salesman.


He married Lena Smith Jan. 1, 1939, in Lamar, Mo. She died Jan. 7, 1979.


Survivors include one son, William D. Bevans, Denver, Colo.; four daughters, Barbara M. Perrigo and Dorothy A. Byrd, both of Conway, Ark., and Geraldine S. Winton, 201 N. Georgia St., and Mary L. Lindsay, 2605 Knollview St., both of Pittsburg; one brother, George Fort, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one sister, Elizabeth M. Givens, Los Angeles; 19 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.


Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, Pittsburg. The Rev. George Powers will officiate. Burial will be in Bird Cemetery in Cherokee County.


Friends may call after 1 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.
