Appointed on November 18, 1861 in the Confederate States Army, 17th South Carolina Volunteers, Company E, The Indian Land Tigers. Wounded at Boonesboro, Maryland. Wounded on July 30, 1864 at Petersburg, Virginia receiving a concussion from shell and wounded in left thigh. Promoted to Captain on January 21, 1865. Paroled on April 9, 1865. He married Mary Ann Jordan.
