Gordon first worked as a disc jockey at KDSX Radio in Sherman, Texas, he had a great love for music whether he was playing the records or making the music himself as the leader of one of his early bands. He was also a registered nurse for twenty six years but his love of songwriting was what caused him to move to the Nashville area in 1987. In 1990 the Nashville Songwriter's Association acknowledged his song "A Ring Where A Ring Used To Be" for superior creativity in both words and music. The late country singer Chris Ledoux recorded Gordon's song "Dallas Days and Fort Worth Nights" which can be heard on Chris' "20 Greatest Hits" CD.
