As mentioned by petname "Mahaly" in her father William Alexander's Nov-1831 Will before he died in Feb-1832 in St Francois County, Missouri, Mahala Alexander was one of five daughters and three sons born to parents William Alexander & Elizabeth (Fish) Alexander in Lincoln County, North Carolina, before the family of 10 came to Missouri. Like her sister Polly, Mahala never married.
Mahala's childhood family was:
Dad, William Alexander (?-1832) & Mom, Elizabeth (Fish) Alexander (?-aftr 1831) {named in his Nov-1831 will}
(1) Corbin Alexander (1798-1865)
m. Lucy Hunt (sister of John Giles "Jack" Hunt)
(2) Lawson Alexander (1800-1889)
m. Mary "Polly" McCormack
(sister of Peter Patrick McCormack)
(3) Walter Alexander
(?-aft 1831) {named in Nov-1831 will}
(3) Eliza (Alexander) McCormack (1803-1862)
m. Peter Patrick McCormack
(brother of Mary "Polly" (McCormack) Alexander)
(4) Polly Alexander (1808-1880)
never married
(5) "Mahaly" Mahala Alexander (1811-1882)
never married
(6) "Elvira/Betsy" Elizabeth Elvira (Alexander) Murphy (1813-1869)
m. Lewis Murphy
(7) Lucinda (Alexander) Hunt
(1817-1896)
m. John Giles "Jack" Hunt (brother of Lucy (Hunt) Alexander)
Excerpts from an 1888 newspaper article about her brother Lawson illuminate the whole family, to which I've added [brackets] for clarity:
"...one of the first settlers of St. Francois County, Mo., [the siblings were all] born in Lincoln County, NC [to parents] William and Elizabeth (Fish) Alexander. The father was also a native of Lincoln County, NC., and was of English extraction. He was a farmer by occupation and immigrated to Jefferson County, Mo., in 1817, but after remaining there four years moved to St. Francois County [1821], where he died between 1830 and 1840 [1832]. He was married to Miss Fish and to them were born eight children--three sons and five daughters..."
