Mrs. Emeline Truax, one of the oldest inhabitants as well as one of the earliest settlers of Atchison county, died at the residence of Mrs. H. L. Whittaker in Lancaster at 6:30 o'clock, this morning. She was born in North Hampton, Mass. December 14, 1811, and spent the earlier part of her life in that state. She was enrolled in the first Sunday School organized in the state of Massachusetts outside of the city of Boston and has been a devoted member of the church for more than eighty years. She was married in Chicopee, Mass. on May 1, 1837, to Lyman Whitaker, who died in 1852. From there she came to Illinois in 1855 with her three sons, and in 1857 moved to Atchison county, settling near Pardee. In 1859 she was married to Joseph Truax, who died in Atchison, January 29, 1889. She was the mother of three sons: B. F. Whitaker, of Bremerton, Washington; F. L. Whitaker, of Baker City, Oregon, and Henry L. Whittaker, deceased. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. F. E. Harrell at the M. E. church at Lancaster on Friday, May 5, at 1 o'clock, and the burial will be in the Pardee cemetery.
