Naomi Dorothy Elizabeth Athas (Trachte), a long-time resident of Fort Atkinson, WI, left her earthly home at 301 on August 1, 2018. Naomi was 88 years young.

Naomi was born in Watertown, WI, on August 11, 1929. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1947 and subsequently attended Dodge County Normal School, Mayville, WI where she studied Elementary Education.

Maple Street School in Ixonia, WI, was where Naomi began her teaching career, instructing students grades K-8 in a one room school house. She loved her students and always had fond memories of those early days. Eventually, Naomi completed her four-year degree in 1972 at the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater. Shortly after her teaching career began, Naomi married the love of her life, Paul Athas, on Jan 1, 1951.

Naomi had many interests beyond teaching. She was a member of the Fort Atkinson Jaycettes early in her move to Fort Atkinson. She was an avid quilter and supplied her family with beautiful pieces throughout her life. Being a member of the Fort Atkinson Piece Makers Quilt Guild for many years, Naomi enjoyed the fellowship and encouragement of this group. Naomi was an active member of Ebenezer Moravian Church of Watertown, WI. All her life, Naomi taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and served with several committees over the years.

Naomi loved her family and raised her children to love music and education, for which they are grateful. She quilted for others, including the local hospital by making baby quilts, well into her senior years.

Naomi is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Athas and a wonderful grandson, Steven Athas.

She will be sweetly remembered by: her five children, and her main care-giver who carried her to the end, Karen; her 15 loving grandchildren and her 4 super loving great-grandchildren.

Services for Naomi will be held at Ebenezer Moravian Church, N8071 High Rd, Watertown, WI 53094. A Visitation will begin at 10:00am followed by a memorial service at 11:00am. Interment will follow at the Cemetery at Ebenezer Church. Please join us for a fellowship meal following the interment.
