Mathilda Agusta Louise Barfknecht, daughter of Frederick and Friederika Schrbert Barfknecht, was born February 7, 1897 on the family farm 8 1/2 miles northwest of Nelson. She was the youngest in the family of 8 children.
Mathilda was received into the Kingdom of God by Baptism on April 2, 1897. Following instruction in the Christian faith she confirmed her faith in the Triune God on April 9, 1911 in the Evangelical Lutheran Church near Lawrence.
At the age of 16 she was united in marriage to William Hohl at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler with Pastor John Schwerin, officiating.
Mr. and Mrs. William Hohl farmed in Nuckolls County before moving to their present home in Nelson.
During recent years Mrs. Hohl was in relatively poor health. On Monday morning, November 30 she suffered a severe stroke and was taken from the Good Samaritan Home in Nelson to the Nuckolls County Hospital. She departed this life Wednesday evening, December 2nd at the age of 73 years, 9 months, and 25 days. Preceding her in death were an infant son on March 13, 1922, her parents, 3 brothers, and 1 sister.
Those remaining: her husband, William; a brother, Charles of Anton, Colorado; 2 sisters, Mrs. Lena Bangert of Blue Hill, Nebraska and Mrs. Anna Luellen of Yuma, Colorado; a daughter, Armilda and husband, Harold Uhrmacher of Route 1, Superior; 2 grandchildren, Shirley and Dale; 1 great-grandchild and other relatives and friends.
