Mrs. Eliza Beers Passes Away at Age of 88

Eliza E. Bowers, the last of a family of seven children of Abram and Caroline Bowers, was born near Uniontown, Pennsylvania, April 25, 1844, and passed away May 5, 1932, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F. D. Rhodes, at the age of 88 years and 10 days.

While yet a young girl she moved with her parents from Pennsylvania to Toulon, Illinois. There she became a Christian, joining the Baptist church at the age of 14 and led an active Christian life until the infirmities of age prevented.

She was united in marriage to Daniel Beers April 1, 1866, at Toulon. One child, Eva M., was born to this union. Illinois was their home until the year 1888 when they moved to Nelson, Nebraska, where they lived until the death of Mr. Beers in 1900. There she became a member of the Nelson Presbyterian church (sic), bringing her church letter from there to Edgar in 1914.

Although she was not able to take an active part in later years, she led a consistent Christian life and was an example and an inspiration to those with whom she came in contact.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother, always thoughtful of others and will be greatly missed.

She leaves to mourn her loss, one daughter and son-in-law, five grandchildren, five nieces, seven nephews and four great grandchildren.

After the death of her husband, Mrs. Beers lived with her only daughter, Mrs. Rhodes, and her life during this time has been one of sacrifice helping in any way she could to assist Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes and family. Her only thought seemed to be for them.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes, conducted by Rev T. S. Hughes. Music was furnished by the Presbyterian male quartette and Mrs. E. J. Hughes and Elizabeth M. Hughes. Pallbearers were Walter Woodhead, Fred Gass, F. A. Voorhees, J. G. Walley, C. G. Cottle and F. M. Thompson. She was laid to rest by the side of her husband at Nelson.
