Beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend died in the line of duty for the Utah State Department of Corrections. Stephen grew up in Bluffdale, Utah and he stayed there to raise his own family. As a youth he earned his Eagle Scout Award, and he graduated from the old Bingham High School in 1965. After faithfully serving in the LDS Eastern states Mission from 1966 to 1968 with President Boyd K. Packer as his mission president, Stephen attended Weber State and LDS Business College. In 1970, Stephen began serving his country for six years as a reservist in the United States Marine Corps. He worked at Kennecott Copper for 15 years before he joined the Corrections Department where he had been working for the last 22 years. On August 19, 1971 he married Mildred Crowther of Malad, Idaho, in the Salt Lake Temple. Stephen and Millie raised five children, and at present have 16 grandchildren. Besides having been a missionary, Stephen fulfilled numerous other callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including High Counselor, member of the Bishopric, High Priest Group Leader, stake seventy, scoutmaster, and faithful home teacher. His fondest callings were those which involved the youth. Many people can bear eloquent witness that he lived his life to serve others for they were the recipients of his goodness. Stephen loved the outdoors and nature, and his abundant energy and enthusiasm for this interest kept him in top shape. Most of his free time was centered around his family; much of that was spent at his mountain property, four wheeling, hiking, playing with his grandkids and working with his bulldozer. Many people have lifelong memories of wonderful, adventurous outings there.
