He was born May 18, 1943 in Boone, N.C., the son of the late Troy Pardue and Earline Marie Bentley Lail.
Mr. Lail had retired from Conover Police Department, had worked for K-Mart's and was currently employed with Griffith's Security. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church in Catawba.
Survivors include daughters, Melea Glen Lail of the home; Marina Lail Kelly of Bradford, Ontario, Canada; Marisa Lail Setzer of Newton, N.C.; and Merrie Ann Lail Boltin of Greensboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Lindsay Alaine Setzer, Bradley Hugh Setzer, Scott Andrew Kelly, and Claire Marie Kelly; sisters, Margaret Lail Johnson of Hickory, N.C., and Donna Lail Pope of Granite Falls, N.C.; brothers, Dallas Eugene "Gene" Lail of Mississippi, Lonnie Dale Lail of Hickory, N.C., and Ricky Wayne Lail of Hickory, N.C.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Ann Sims Lail; and a stepson, Thomas Russell Sims.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at Pisgah United Methodist Church, and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
