Lydia was born in Lebanon, Leclede County, Missouri, the daughter of James Madison and Charity Frances (Owsley) Coffee. She married William Adolphus Abbott and they were the parents of William Buster (born 1923), Loren T. (born 1925) and one child who is still living.

Lydia died in Turley, Oklahoma. Her cause of death is believed to have been tuberculosis.
