Mr. Farthing, youngest son of Walter and Catherine Farthing, was a native of Johnson County, Tennessee. A resident of the Augusta, Georgia area since 1975, he attended, at various times, Hillcrest Baptist Church, Windsor Spring Baptist Church and Hephzibah Baptist Church. A veteran of the U.S. Army, his duty stations included: Taipei, Taiwan; Kagnew Station, Asmara, Eritrea; and Ft. Huachuca, Arizona; tours in Germany, Thailand and South Korea; and numerous postings in the United States. Mr. Farthing retired from Ft. Gordon, Georgia. He studied the King James Bible daily, enjoyed country, folk and gospel music, played the guitar and sang.
Mr. Farthing had four brothers; Roger, Raleigh, Joe and Tom. He had four sisters; Lois Greene, Mary McQueen, Ruth Crowe and Joyce Farthing. He had two sons; Robert Jr. and Mark Daniel; one daughter, Karen Elizabeth; and one granddaughter, Heather Nicole Farthing. He was married to Truella Edna Hodge.
