James M. Ware was the son of George M. Weir of North Carolina and Elizabeth Pamela Gaines Lawler. George M. Wier was born Sept. 1, 1823 in Tennessee and died Nov. 1, 1849. Elizabeth was born May 31, 1825 in Chatham Co., North Carolina and died Aug. 14, 1910. She is buried in Bethlehem Cemetery, Henry Co., Missouri. In 1850 she married John N. Boyd.
James married Mrs. Sarah A. Myers Green on Dec. 5, 1867 at Oregon City, Clackamas Co., Oregon, Certificate #67.

"PIONEER DIES AT OREGON CITY HOME
J. M. Ware died Tuesday at his home in this city after an illness of two and one-half years. Death was due to cancer. Mr. Ware was born in Missouri, May 2, 1844, and had been a resident of Oregon City since 1867. He is survived by a widow, one son and three daughters: Rev. A. J. Ware, of Aberdeen, Wa; Mrs. E. L. Shaw, of Oregon City; Mrs. C. A. Rands and Mrs. Ed Wiley of Palouse, Wa.
The funeral will be held at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the United Brethern Church: Bishop H. L. Barkley officiating. Mr. Ware is also survived by four step-children: Mrs. Eva May, H. C. Green, West Linn: J. V. and A. R. Green, of Oregon City."

Scott-Applegate Trail Atlas and Gazetteer article as follows: The Oregon Spectator, October 1, 1846 issue reported that Jesse Applegate and at least one road building volunteer from the 1846 emigration had already arrived in the settlements in the northern Willamette Valley.
Mr. J. M. Ware from, the States, has arrived and informed us that he came in company with Captain Applegate- - -that the wagons, numbering some two hundred and fifty, will probably arrive in about two weeks.
The first wagons were still crooking round the inlets of Lower Klamath Lake, over three hundred miles back, up the trail from Oregon City, on October 1st. They were still making tracks down Rogue River in good weather two weeks later.
The first wagons did not reach Cottage Grove until November 22, 1846. They did not reach Salem until Christmas.
The 1846 Emigrants were left by themselves with about two hundred miles of wagon road to build through some of the most treacherous mountain wilderness in the United States.
