(Household of William H. Himes)
Alvia (sic) Bowles (sic), 66 yrs, Boarder, Widowed, Blacksmith, b. Ohio, Parents both b. Pennsylvania [NOTE: Although Alvy indicated this year he was a widowed person, it is known that his wife, Dorcas Price Boles, whom he'd married in 1833 had remarried by the time of the 1860 Census and remained with her second husband thereafter until her death. It is logical to presume that Alvy and Dorcas divorced, likely as the result of his having come West to California during the Gold Rush.]

Alvy Boles, 68 yrs, b. Ohio, Blacksmith, residence-Fall City, Registered-9/16/1880

NOTE: Sometime around 1883, Alvy's son, Emery Alison Boles and his family moved from Genoa, Nevada to Placerville, El Dorado County. E. A. Boles thereafter purchased property adjacent to the Union Cemetery (now known as Placerville Union Cemetery), where three young children died and were buried on his private property. During his residency in Placerville, E. A. Boles was the co-proprietor of a Blacksmith Shop in the City of Placerville.

1884 Siskiyou County Great Register of Voters:
Alvy Boles, 71 yrs, b. Ohio, Blacksmith, residence-Yreka, Registered-9/6/1884

As Alvy Boles was reaching advanced age, it is likely that he moved to Placerville to be nearer to family, including the son who had once lived near him in 1860 at Yreka, California.
