Frank Aveline was a residence Fort Wayne, Indiana previous to the Civil War.

On 5/15/1861 he mustered into "G" Co. IN 12th Infantry as a sergeant.
He was Mustered Out on 5/19/1862 at Washington, D.C.

On 8/17/1862 he was commissioned into company "B" of the 12th Indiana Infantry as a 1st Lieut 7/17/1862. He was promoted to a Captain on 7/2/1863.

He was Killed on 11/25/1863 at Missionary Ridge, Tennessee.

According to his gravestone, "His sword had been twice hit and bent almost to a bow but raising it above his head he was cheering us on when he fell shot twice through the head by rebel sharpshooters. His last words, 'Forward Boys keep your lines steady."
