Cpl. Llythaniele Fender of Medical Lake, Washington was born at F.E. Warren Air Force Base the son of Tom and Ellen Davis Fender. He attended school in Onawa and Julesburg, Colorado and returned to Onawa, where he graduated with the class of 2004. He enlisted in the United States Army in October 2004 and had served in Korea for one year and had been in Iraq since February 2007. During that time he lived with his grandparents. He was nicknamed "Sporto" and would give Pop-Tarts to Iraqi children, buying several cases of the pastries when they ran out. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Richard Davis. He died in Karbala of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device at age 21.
