Longtime Anchorage resident Martin Luther Addleman, 54, died peacefully on Dec. 7, 2004, at his sister's home in Warrenton, Mo. A service was Dec. 9 at Martin Funeral Home in Warrenton with burial in Warrenton City Cemetery. A memorial service in Anchorage was Jan. 8 at American Legion Jack Henry Post 1, 840 W. Fireweed Lane.
Mr. Addleman was born Oct. 13, 1950, to Howard Wilson and Inez (Barnett) Addleman in St. Louis. "Marty," as he was known to his friends and family, had lived in Alaska since July 1976. He worked for many years as the area maintenance manager for the U.S. Postal Service at the airport post office in Anchorage before retiring in 2003. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a longtime member and former commander of American Legion Jack Henry Post 1 in Anchorage. He was also a member of the VFW and Moose Lodge in Anchorage. His friends said: "Marty was a one-of-a-kind person. He had a generous heart and would do anything for a friend. He loved Alaska very much and was proud to call himself Alaskan. He was proud of his service in the Marine Corps and was a tireless volunteer at the American Legion."
He is survived by his sister, Pam Oberkrom of Warrenton; and many close friends who made up his Alaska family. Memorial donations may be sent to American Legion Jack Henry Post 1.
