A son of Orin and Laney (Burroughs) Percival, he moved with his farming family in 1824 to Ohio. He moved to Illinois in 1850, settling on a farm in Cass County. On April 9, 1850, he married Catherine C. Beals. They remained on Cass County one year. The couple had seven sons: Charles, Edward, Curtis, Otis, Orin, Joseph and Abraham. In 1852, the Percival family purchased 40 acres in Urbana Township. On this land had been erected the first log house in this township, which also served as a hotel. Percival, through hard work, prospered and his farming operation grew. At one point he owned over 700 acres of choice land. In 1862 he erected a modern frame farm house on the land. Very civic minded, he served as Champaign County Road Commissioner, public school director and a director the ther First National Bank. An active Free Mason, he was a member of Western Star Lodge No. 240 A.F. and A.M.
