Services for Dr. James Blake Adams, Sr., 83, of Monroe will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 29, 2006, from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Warren Eckhardt officiating. Interment will follow in the Columbia Hill Cemetery.

Dr. Adams died Sunday, March 26, 2006, after a lengthy illness. He was born April 24, 1922 in Columbia, LA to the union of Dr. Lee Roy Adams, Sr. and Olive Blake Adams. He was a native of Columbia and resided there until becoming a resident of Monroe twenty years ago.

After graduating from high school at Jefferson Military Academy in 1940, he attended Loyola University until enlisting in the U.S. Army during WWII. He continued his studies in dentistry at Chaffey Junior College in Ontario, CA and Cornell University in Ithica, NY. After his military service, he attended Emory University School of Dentistry in Atlanta where he graduated in 1947. Upon returning to Columbia, Dr. Adams practiced dentistry with his father and brother, Dr. L. R. Adams, Jr. until establishing his own practice in Columbia Heights. Dr. Adams was saved while attending the First Methodist Church in Columbia and later attended the Columbia Heights Baptist Church where he was a deacon. After moving to Monroe, he became a member of North Monroe Baptist Church. He was a member of the Fifth District Dental Society and Xi Psi Phi Honorary Dental Society. He was a lifetime member of the American Dental Association and the LA Dental Association.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of fifty-five years, Myra Nell Myers Adams; his brother [sic brothers], Dr. Lee Roy Adams, Sr. [sic Jr.] and Maurice Adams and his sister Maurine Richardson.

Survivors include his sons, J. Blake Adams, Jr. and wife, Brenda and Curtis M. Adams and wife Doll; grandchildren, Doll Ann Johnson and husband, Byron, Elizabeth Adams and Christopher Adams, all of Monroe; sisters-in-law, Marie Adams and Ida Adams of Columbia and Rose Mary Gore of New Orleans and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Adams, Monty Adams, Sr., Monty Adams, Jr., Peter Adams, Byron Johnson, Gary Richardson, Glen Richardson and Robin Causey.

Visitation will be Tuesday, 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and Wednesday, 12:00 PM until service time. Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society, Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, or North Monroe Baptist Church.
