Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Born in Ireland, he served in the Civil War as a First Sergeant in Company A, 73rd New York Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the Battle of Spotsylvania, Virginia on May 12, 1864. His citation reads simply "Capture of flag of 65th Virginia Infantry (C.S.A.)". Later in the battle he was killed in action, and his Medal was posthumously awarded to him on December 1, 1864.
