Mr. Willows settled in Scranton, Kansas, at the age of thirteen, where he maintained residence until his death.
In 1884 he was married to Susannah Harris. Of the five children born to this union, four survive and were with their father when he died: Joe Willows, Richmond, Mo.; Mrs. Pearl Murphy, Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. May Wheaton, Las Vegas, New Mexico; Mrs. Cora Briggs, Harveyville, Kansas; a daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Rowe, passed on the 10th of August, 1926.
Mr. Willows' second marriage was to Miss Phyllis Rogers in 1898, and of their seven children, these six stood by their mother at the father's bedside til he ceased to breathe: Olive, Georgia, William, Mabel, Leone and Thomas. The one bereavement of this little group came to them six years ago when they buried James.
Four sisters and two brothers, all of Hutchinson survived to attend their brother's funeral: John and William Willows, Lena Thomas, Nellie Gillick, Sarah Gass, and Minnie Unger.
Mr. Willows was an extraordinarily hard worker, and two families of children, of whom anyone could be proud, remain as a monument to his life's labors. His later years were spent in suffering, and ended Friday morning January 30, 1931 at the home, at ten minutes to three. Seventy one years one month and twenty-seven days was the life-span--and we consider the life's accomplishment fully commensurate to its length.
Services were conducted by the Rev. Jansson Sunday afternoon, February 1, at the M. E. Church, and then our respected neighbor, George Willows, was laid to final rest in the Scranton Cemetery."
