Lillian Elizabeth Hays, 86, lifelong Deming resident, passed away early Monday morning, July 17, 1995, at Mimbres Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. this afternoon at Baca's Funeral Chapel and the funeral service will be there Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Ken Averitt, from Harrison, Ark., will officiate and the concluding service and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
She was born April 16, 1909 in Kennydale, Texas to Thomas Chappell and Pernedia Featherston Chappell. She married Samuel Lee Hays and in 1947 moved to Deming from Bowie, Texas, where she was a devoted wife and homemaker and was a member of the Copper and Elm Church of Christ.
Survivors include four sons, Thomas J. Hays, Lee Roy Hays, Samuel Joe Hays and Donnie Ray Hays, and a daughter, Jeannetta Laverne Holmes, all of Deming; three brothers, Olin Chappell of Henrietta, Texas, C.H. Chappell of Louisville, Texas, and Valton Chappell of San Angelo, Texas; two sisters, Oma Stella Leverett of Duncan, Oklahoma, and Vada Davis of Henrietta, Texas; twenty-six grandchildren, forty-two great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Samuel Lee Hays, on May 29, 1991; a daughter, Ruby Hays; a brother Reed Chappell; and two sisters, Clara Rector and Lorene Baker.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry, Terry, Bobby and Kenneth Hays, James and Lee Dale Holmes.
Entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels.

Lee and Lillian's infant daughter, Ruby, is buried in Bluegrove Cemetery, Clay County, Texas. Her memorial is #64701806.
