Merritt was born in IN to William Blackburn and Susan Bolton. He married in White Cloud, Doniphan Co, KS to Zerilda Caroline Smith. He moved his family from KS to MO and finally to CA, where he died in Los Angeles at the age of 51.
His obituary reads as follows:
BLACKBURN. At residence, No. 1336 Santa Monica avenue (sic), July 5, 1910, Elihue Meritt Blackburn, aged 51 years.
Funeral services will be held at chapel of Bresee Brothers, 855 South Figueroa street (sic), at 10 a.m., Thursday. Friends invited.
