Thomas Orvil Atwood was the son of William Riley Atwood and Hattie Frances Havens. He served in the Armed Forces from 1931-1934. On 11 Sept. 1935 he married Vira Lorene Grantham in Callahan County, Texas. The couple had three children: Howard Riley in 1937, Bonnie Lois in 1940; and Thomas Ronnie in 1943. The couple divorced 24 Nov 1952 in Duval County, Texas. Note that the date of birth on Thomas' headstone conflicts with his Texas Birth Certificate which indicates that he was born on 28 Sep 1910. Also note that the date of death on Thomas' headstone conflicts with his Texas Death Certificate which indicates that he died on 23 Dec 1952.

Ex-West Texan's Funeral at Oplin Tuscola, Dec. 24 - Funeral was scheduled at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Oplin Baptist Church for Thomas Orval Atwood, 42, who died Tuesday following a heart attack on a downtown street in Victoria {Death Certificate says "Stroke."} Burial will be in an Oplin Cemetery. Fry Funeral Home of Tuscola is in charge of arrangements. Born at Cross Plains on September 29, 1910, he lived in Callahan County until 1942 when he moved to Victoria. He was employed in the West Texas oil fields most of his life. Survivors include three children, Howard and Ronnie Atwood and Bonnie Atwood, all of Victoria, one sister, Mrs. Edgar Taylor of Fort Stockton, Texas, three brothers, M.H. Atwood of Oplin, N. L. of Lawn and Glen of Abilene.
