Mr. Agan was born in Cherokee County, Alabama on April 30, 1925, the son of the late Alonzo Agan and Mollie Morris Agan.
He had lived most of his life in Floyd County and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church since 1963 and had been a deacon since 1957. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Agan worked as a truck driver for 17 years for Lance Dunaway, a distributor for Amoco Oil products. He was a member and past master of the Floyd Springs Masonic Lodge #167 F & AM, served as a chaplain for Floyd Springs Masonic Lodge and was past patron of Floyd Springs Eastern Star, Chapter #443, member of Etowah Eastern Star, Chapter #30, a member of the Rome Shrine Club, member of the Yaarab Temple and a member of the Low Twelve Club.
Mr. Agan was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Ronnie Stephen Agan, April 8, 1955, a daughter, Donna Elaine Agan Curtis, November 3, 1978, four brothers, Wesley, Plural, Carlton and M. C. Agan and one sister, Hannie Bell Green.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Nonnie Miller Agan, to whom he was married, December 5, 1942; two sons and daughters in-law, John Robert and Bobbie Agan of Rome and Jerry McArthur and Brenda Agan of Elizabethton, TN; three daughters and sons in-law, Wanda and David Rhoades of San Antonio, TX, Karen and Michael Wrenn, Jacksonville Beach, FL and Janet and Darryl Pollard of Rome; fifteen grandchildren; twenty eight great-grandchildren; two bothers, Jerome Agan of Cave Spring and Rev. Eugene (Pap) Agan of Cedartown; three sisters and brothers in-law, Annie and Rev. Doyle Kerr of Whorton, AL, Betty and Paul Lee of Leesburg, AL and Reba and Paul Crider of Rock Run, AL. Nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services for Mr. Agan will be held on Sunday, May 28, 2006 at 2:00 pm at Emmanuel Baptist Church with his pastor, Rev. Harold Ingram and Rev. Harry Carter officiating.
Interment will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Floyd Springs Masonic Lodge # 167 F & AM in charge of Masonic graveside rites. A call communication will be held at 11:00 am, Sunday at the lodge hall for the purpose of attending the services of Mr. Crayton E. Agan.Mr. Agan will lie in-state at Emmanuel Baptist Church on Sunday from 1:00 pm until the service hour.
The family will receive friends at the Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home on Saturday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 pm. At other hours the family may be contacted at the residence.Active pallbearers will be Mr. Agans' grandsons, Jerry (Marty) Agan, Jr., Tony Rhoades, Bob Agan, Joey Cowart, Jason Cowart, Van Patrick and Buster Nunley. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Floyd Springs Masonic Lodge #167 F & AM. Pallbearers are requested to meet at the church by 1:30 pm, Sunday.
