Samuel enlisted with the 140th NY Reg. in Aug., 1862 - served five months in the Washington, DC area and died from typhoid near Palmer, Va. at age 16 years, 6 months. Relatives report his father drove a wagon and horse team over 700 miles round-trip to Va., returning his eldest son back home for an interment in Greece.
