Hazel Lois (McKelvey) Allen was born on Wednesday; November 23, 1910 in Prosperine; Laclede County, Missouri to Harry and Nova McKelvey. The McKelvey family relocated to a farm in central Iowa when Hazel was ten years old. She was an alumnist of Rhodes High School. Hazel married her high school sweetheart, Marvin C. Allen in 1932. The couple farmed in the Rhodes and State Center communities until Marvin's death in June 1965. Hazel remained in the area and worked at the Marshall County Home and Hospital until retirement. She relocated to Colorado in 1988. Hazel will always be in our hearts and she will be greatly missed. Hazel Lois (McKelvey) Allen, age 96, former longtime resident of the Rhodes and State Center; Marshall County, Iowa communities ended her long and full life on Friday; April 27, 2007 in Louisville; Boulder County, Colorado. Those left to mourn her passing are: her four daughters: Lois (Howard) Troxel of Denver; Denver County, Colorado. Donna (KC) Whaley of Bend; Deschutes County, Oregon. Marvel (John) Maddy of Ghent; Carroll County, Kentucky and Sheri (Antonio) Farnelli of Fairbanks; Van Buren County, Arkansas. Eleven grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, one granddaughter and one great grandson. There will be a public visitation held from 10:00 a.m. until 12 (Noon) on Friday at the funeral home.
