IRON STATION - Saintie Miller Hand, 90, formerly of Iron Station, died Feb. 17, 2009, at Brian Center in Lincolnton.

She was born July 27, 1918, in Edenton, daughter of the late James Frank White Sr. and Saintie Miller White.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chaplain Harry Hand; a sister, Varina White and five brothers, Fred White, Ned White, J. Frank White, Jr. Alex White, and William A. White.

She graduated from Mars Hill College, was a loving and devoted grandmother, traveled extensively with her husband who was a US Army chaplain, and was a member of Alexis Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Stephanie Hand Povlich and husband Richard of Iron Station; a son, James William Hand and wife Greta of Cleburne, Texas; a brother, Sam White and wife Dolly of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Mary Eliza Wilkins and husband James of Suffolk, Va.; grandchildren, Brian Povlich and wife Ora of Lincolnton, Shannon Povlich of Iron Station, Robert Hand and wife Kim of Greenville, Oli and Stephen Hand of Iceland; a step granddaughter, Linda of Iceland and great-grandchildren, Rindi Povlich, Greta, Almar, Hildamar, Vigdis, Daniel and Robert.


Interment will follow in Gaston Memorial Park.
