"S.L. Motorist Killed In 1-Car Crash
Auto Misses Curve, Rolls 5 Times in Toole County
Timpie Point, Tooele County--A Salt Lake Motorist was killed about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday when his automobile rolled off U.S. Highway 40-Alt. 50 at Timpie Point, 13 miles west of Grantsville. Robert Fuentes, 22, 769 Denver St., Salt Lake City, was pronounced dead on arrival at Tooele Valley Hospital an hour and a half later. Deputy Sheriff William Pitt Tooele, said the vehicle was traveling eastward as it rounded the northern tip of the Stanbury Mountains and failed to negotiate the road curve entering Tooele Valley. It rolled over five times, Deputy Pitt said. 78th Traffic Death. The death was Utah's 78th traffic accident fatality of the year and was Tooele County's firth highway victime in 1961. It kept this year's toll nearly abreast of the 80 persons who died on the roads in the state for the same period in 1960, Utah's worst year of traffic deaths. Last year two persons died on Tooele County highways up to June 7, and seven died during the entire year. Native of Texas. Mr. Fuentes was born Nov. 30, 1938, at San Angelo, Tesas, son of Frank G. and Amelia Garcia Fuentes. A resident of Utah the past five years, he married Marion Erichson Nov. 14, 1958, at Salt Lake City. He was employed as a tire recapper at Lodge Tire Service, Salt Lake City. He was a former resident of Texas, Wyoming and Colorado. He attended Salt Lake City schools and was a member of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. Surviving are his widow, a daughter Annette, 23 months, and a son Michael, 10 months; parents, and a brother, Frank, of Salt Lake City." Article Courtesy of the Deseret News Wed. June 7, 1961.
