Louis V. Hayes, Sr.
January 21, 1934 - August 3, 2018
Louis V. Hayes Sr. passed away Aug. 3, 2018, peacefully in his home where he has lived since 1969.
Louis was born in Sedan, N.M., to Lois and Pauline Hayes on Jan. 21, 1934. He was raised in Mayer, where he worked in various jobs prior to working at Orme Ranch. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean Conflict. He served on the USS Ashtabula (AO-51) on a fleet oiler.
After the Navy he worked in the mine in Bagdad. In 1958 he joined the electrical union and traveled around the state of Arizona and lived in various towns working as an operator mechanic. He worked as an operator mechanic until he retired in 1996.
After he retired he spent his years building his shop, being the community mechanic, camping and hunting with his family, and loving and enjoying life.
Louis was not only a great mechanic, but also a trusted confidant, a friend to all who knew him, a great hugger, and “Papa” to many. Louis never met a stranger and he always had time to listen to someone’s story or lend a helping hand. He has left a big hole in the community of Wickenburg and anyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Janice Hayes; his children Kelly Hayes (Trent Kirkendall), Barney Hayes (Malakie Hayes); his grandchildren Malakie Carr (Lance Carr), Brenna Hopkins (Tye Hopkins), Colton Hayes (Kenzie Hayes), Dalton Hayes (Nicole Bromm); his great-grandchildren Rylan Hopkins, Tacey Hopkins, Haven Hayes and Maci Bromm.
He is also survived by his brother Vernon Hayes and many nieces and nephews.
We will never be able to fill the hole that he has left in our hearts but we will always have wonderful memories.
Services will be held Saturday, Aug. 11 at 9:30 a.m. at the Everett Bowman Memorial Rodeo Arena.
