It all began March 19, 1951 when Elliott was born in Ft Smith, Arkansas. Mom (Jeri), brother (chuck), and dad (Bud) were all thrilled at his arrival. Shortly after Elliott was born, his dad (who was in the U.S. Army) was given orders to go to Korea and right before he left, he looked at baby Elliott and said, “he looks like a chip off the old block.” Hence, his family nick name became Chip. His dad decided to make the Army his career and they moved to many places every several years until Bud retired in 1968. During the summers while growing up, he and his brother stayed with his grandparents and enjoyed working on the farm for his granddad and spending time with his cousins Roblyn, Mark and Kevin and getting to know his younger cousins Lisa and Lee as well as Kay Lyn and Corbet. From 1966 to 1968 they were stationed in Frankfurt Germany. Elliott stayed on to graduate from Frankfurt American High School. There, he made many lasting friends and played football and other sports. He has kept up with all of his high school friends through the FAHS Alumni Association. After high school, Elliott attended Baylor University and then joined the Navy and was in the submarine service October 29, 1971. Again, being in the military, he moved several times and loved living in Hawaii, Washington and Connecticut. He decided not to make the Navy his career and was honorably discharged October 28, 1975. Then, a mutual friend of outs introduced us February 4, 1977. Six months later we married August 20, 1977 and that was the beginning of our story. We became aunts and uncles to Ashley, David and Ben Bradshaw (Chuck’s children) and Darren and Todd Smith (Mike, my older brother’s sons). We wanted to be parents as we loved children. Many thought we were crazy to become parents in our 40’s and maybe we were but the day Kevin (our son) was born November 14, 1995 was the happiest day of our life. We vowed to raise a good Christian boy and to be there for him. He started by playing Santa Claus every year until Kevin recognized who this Santa was. We signed him up for soccer, cub scouts, baseball, boy scouts, and band. We were right there supporting him. Elliott decided to be Kevin’s den leader in cub scouts pack 1040, and was his dugout dad during baseball. He hung up his camping gear after cub scouts but still wanted to help Kevin as he involved the troop in honoring our veterans by raising money to purchase wreaths to lie on their graves at the National Cemetery at holiday time. The program is called Wreaths across America. Our hope was to see Kevin go through the whole program and reach Eagle. In 2014 Kevin achieved the rank of Eagle and that was Elliott’s proudest moment. He loved scouting so much, he even worked for the scouts on a part-time basis later he worked for Enterprise car rental on a part-time basis and made friends there. Other than being a husband and father he had other interests. He played golf until his back wouldn’t let him anymore- even played with Mike (my brother) and smoked celebratory cigars afterwards. He loved bass fishing and mark (my other brother) took him duck hunting, and deep sea fishing. Believe it or not, he got sea sick and decided that was not for him. Staying on land, he went pheasant hunting and brought home Roscoe a beautiful stuffed pheasant. He was so proud of him. His favorite time of year was shooting off fireworks at Mike’s house July 4th and New Year’s Eve. He loved watching the Astro’s play and was a huge fan. All in all, Elliott was man of many interests. He wanted to live longer and was brave to the end. He loved his family and his family loved him so much.
