Obituary of J.M. Baughman.

James W. Baughman was born in Ohio, Feb. 23, 1831. He enlisted in the Civil war in Ohio, served three years, two months and a half. He was with Sherman in "the march to the sea and the raid around Atlanta and rode his horse five days and nights without food, sleep or a drink of water, and at the close of the war he was honorably discharged.

It was then he came to Kansas where he operated a saw mill for several years, sawing the first timber that built the first railroad through the Neosho Valley. In 1877 he was married to Miss Teressa Bagewell at Neodesha. Until the past ten years he was a successful farmer at that place, having with his family come to Wauneta. After the children left home, he thought he and Mrs. Baughman could live more comfortably in Sedan so came here to retire from the farm.

He leaves a wife, two daughters, Mrs. Geo. Myers of Conway Springs, and Mrs. A.B. Short of Arkansas City, and a son, J.W. Baughman of Dewey, Okla. All were present at his death.

Mr. Baughman was a prosperous and kind hearted man. He was well liked by all. He was a good husband and father and leaves a sad home, and many friends to mourn his loss. - Contributed.
