A fourth-generation resident of Kerr County, Irene G Moore, daughter of Gabe and Anne McGaughey Moore, was born and raised on the family farm near Center Point, Texas. She enjoyed a blessed childhood, surrounded by a large family, which included many cousins.
On June 13, 1923, at the age of 22, she was united in marriage to Ralph Newton White, son of Oscar and Alice Boyls White. Two daughters were born into the union; Mary Kathryn and Gabrielle Ann. A devoted wife and mother, she was active in the PTA, Ladies Home Demonstration Club, and Center Point Garden Club. A life-long member of the Center Point Baptist Church, she played the piano during Sunday worship for 61 years.
Her home was filled with love, along with wonderful aromas from the kitchen, her strawberry cake recipe, a favorite, is still baked by friends and family. She was a friend to many and a best friend to Nova Richardson. She loved her father, always called him Papa, hated her middle name Gertrude and was proud of her heritage.
She was the last of the siblings, Bud, Harry, Pearl, and George preceded her in death, as did Mr White who passed away in 1979. Mr. Barfield Park, a childhood friend, officiated at her services and interment in the Center Point Cemetery beside her husband of 56 years, her parents, and other family members, including cousins, and her playmates from childhood. Mrs. White was survived by her daughters and their husbands, Elmer Lee Jennings and James Griffin, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, including nephew Carlos Moore.
