Clara F. Heath, 93, of South Beloit, IL, died Friday, July 7, 2006 in Premier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center. She was born May 22, 1913 in Janesville, WI, the daughter of Ross and Alma Brickson Keller. Clara graduated from Janesville High School in 1930 and Janesville Business College in 1931. She attended Whitewater College for two years. She married Carl Heath on September 23, 1940 in Jonesboro, TN. He predeceased her on January 1, 2001. Clara began her employment as a bookkeeper at T.P. Burns Dry Goods Store in Janesville, WI, and then at McNeany's Department Store in downtown Beloit. She later moved to Cana, VA for nine years where she taught school in St. Paul Consolidated School and also farmed with her husband. Clara returned to South Beloit, IL and worked as a bookkeeper for Freeman Shoe Company from 1952 to 1962. From 1962 to 1969 she worked as a City Clerk for South Beloit, retiring in 1969. Clara was a member of Central Christian Church belonging to the Joy Circle and the Primetimers. She was a former bowler and enjoyed playing several musical instruments. Clara was an avid reader and enjoyed letter writing. She also made crafts and was a recipe collector. Clara enjoyed fishing and camping together with her husband for 17 years. They spent winters in Silver Springs, FL and Mt. Airy, NC and summers in Wautoma, WI. Clara and Retired Judge J. Richard Long, along with Representative Chuck Benedict of the State Assembly and State Senator Judy Robson, were instrumental in the passing of the state bill allowing people living in assisted living facilities to stay there rather than being moved to a nursing home when they become eligible for Medicaid. This bill is known as Senate Bill 132 (Clara Heath Bill). Survivors include her daughter, Carol (Terry) Wilson Sr. of Beloit, WI; three grandchildren, Terry (Dawn) Wilson Jr. of Janesville, WI, Russell Wilson of Beloit, WI and Michelle Wilson of Beloit, WI; nine great grandchildren, Shuvon (Randy) Johnson of Madison, WI, Shannon Wilson of Madison, WI, Shawna Wilson of Janesville, WI, Brittany and Bradley Marvin, Mindi Eddy, Stephnie Cohen and Tabitha Gable all of Beloit, WI; four great great grandsons, Cortell, Marcellus and Desmond Johnson of Madison, WI, Tristyn Duarte of Beloit, WI; nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, Ross Keller, Jr. and LeRoy Keller, two grandsons, Douglas and Michael Wilson. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2006 in Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI with Pastor Norm Starks officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services in the funeral home. Memorials may be given in her name to Central Christian Church.
