John Donald Applebee, age 83, passed away peacefully at a local hospital (Roseburg, Oregon).

He was born to Clyde and Hazel Applebee in Dewitt, Nebraska on November 15, 1923. Don moved to Myrtle Creek, Oregon in 1936, where he attended three years of High School at Myrtle Creek High and his Junior year moved to Sutherlin where he attended his senior year at Oakland High where he graduated in 1943.

Don served in the United States Army. He was an active infantryman and became part of the Luzon campaign in the Philippine Islands. While enlisted he was the recipient of numerous combat medals. He spent over 20 years in the Armed Forces, stationed all over the world - Yokohama, Japan and South Korea, Washington, California, Texas, New Jersey, New York and Oklahoma. After retiring from the military, Don worked for over 20 years at Roseburg Forest Products and retired.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the Sawmill Workers Teamsters Union Local #2949. He enjoyed watching sporting events at the local schools.

Don is survived by his nieces, Loretta Smith of Springfield,Oregon; Sharlene Jones of Eugene, Oregon; and Viola Dominick of Oakridge, Oregon; nephews, Clyde Huckins of Las Vegas, Nevada; Donald Huckins of Teaberry, Kentucky; and 11 great nieces and nephews.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Clyde; and Hazel; brother, Dean Applebee; sister, Lillie McMurry.

Don will be missed greatly by his family and friends.

A committal service will be on the grounds of Roseburg Memorial Gardens.
