AVEY RICHARD REAGAN died Monday, August 13, 2001 at St. Helena Hospital as a result of a brief illness. He was 63 years of age. He was born on May 2, 1938 in Santa Rosa, CA and grew up in Oakland, graduating from Oakland High School. After serving in the Navy he met and married Judy Ann Iverson in 1962. In 1968, he was awarded a MA in Geography from San Francisco State University and embarked upon a career as a City Planner first in Lodi, then Ukiah, and eventually in Calistoga, CA. For the past 10 years he was a successful real estate agent with Neft and Neft Realtors in Middletown. He is survived by his wife of 39 years Judy Avey, daughter Pamella Avey, son Daniel Avey, daughter-in-law Angela Avey, son-in-law Kiev Alyosha Schulz, grandchildren Charlie Flynn and Madeline Elizabeth Avey, nieces, JoAnn Lehman, Iseth Cowan Leslie Ann Avey and Doris Lee Kaney, nephews James Avey and Jason Cowan, sister-in-law Beatrice Avey and his beloved dog Beau. Richard Avey was a quiet and reserved person who loved being at home with his family. He was a gifted artist, and many who knew him have at least one of his creations hanging on their walls. He always seemed to be building or fixing something or growing it in his garden. He often did special things for people without expecting any recognition or anything else in return. He will be best remembered for his kindness, his sense of fairness and decency, his intelligent sense of humor and his modesty. God took him too soon and he will be deeply and profoundly missed.
