He graduated from Haven High School in 1975, Emporia State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business on December 18, 1981, and his Masters of Business Administration on December 21, 1985. John proudly served in the United States Army from 1974 to 1980 and was honorably discharged.
John is survived by: long-time friend, Cindy Chinn of Wichita; dearly loved daughters, Dr. Jacquelyn Phillips, M.D. of Camarillo, CA, and Rachel Phillips of New York, New York; brother, Jimmy Phillips and wife Ann of Great Bend; sisters, Jeannie Prebble of Hutchinson, Mary Duncan and husband Tony of South Hutchinson, and Debbie Miller and husband Randy of Utah; and nephews, Robert and Jason Wiggins, both of Hutchinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John R. and Mary A. (Hirl) Phillips.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at Partridge Cemetery, with Pastor Matt Stafford officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may sign the book from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary. Memorials may be made to Hutchinson Animal Shelter, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
