Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Civil War as a Private in Company B, 47th Ohio Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Vicksburg, Mississippi, on May 3, 1863. His citation reads "Was one of a party that volunteered and attempted to run the enemy's batteries with a steam tug and 2 barges loaded with subsistence stores". His Medal was awarded to him on November 6, 1908.
