Son of Simeon Hovey Marshall and Mary Jane Hoover; the gravestone mistakenly records his middle initial as "W". He apparently never married, and his family isn't sure of his date of death.

Sam lived with his family at the historic Colle Farm near Simeon, Albemarle County, Virginia. He is remembered even in 2009 by the family as a farmer who excelled at the curing of hams--in a continuing competition with his father, Simeon H. Marshall. The competition was locally remembered as being between "Sim and Sam". See www.one-huge-family.com for more.
