Funeral services for Luther A. Chappell, 85, of 901 Cole Ave., Monroe, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Spears Funeral Home of Monroe.

A native of Turners Hill, Ark., Mr. Chappell died in Sterlington Clinic at 7 a.m. Thursday following a brief illness.

The Rev. Ira Flowers will officiate and burial will be in Hasley Cemetery under direction of Spears.

Mr. Chappell had been a resident of Monroe for the past five years. He was a retired employe of the Standard Ice Company in Arkansas and a member of the Methodist Church there.

He is survived by two sons, William R. Chappell, Monroe, and James R. Chappell of Kingsport, Tenn.; one sister, Mrs. G. V. Fite, Willow, Ark.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will include O. A. Clark, T. L. Brandon, Richard L. Venable, Charles Harrigill, Jeff Roswell and Robert Rickett.
