JONATHAN THRASHER

Jonathan Thrasher was a descendant of the Mayflower Pilgrims. He was born June 14, 1761 at Middleboro, Massachusetts, the son of Azariah and Thankful Pratt Thrasher.

He enlisted during the Revolutionary War for the three
year period - serving from May 1777 to March 1780. It is interesting to note that Jonathan was discharged in New York State. He had enlisted at Plymouth, Mass. where he had been residing along with his twin brother, David.

Jonathan returned to Plymouth following his service and on November 6, 1784, married Nancy Swift of that town. It was in Plymouth where their youngest son, Stephen Thrasher, was born in 1794. Their first children are twin sons, Joshua and Jonathan, born in 1786. Other known children were David, Rhoda and Betsey.

In 1820, we find Jonathan Thrasher living in Lee, Oneida County, N.Y. and at that time, his son, Stephen, and his daughter, Betsey, were both living in the same household as their father. The exact date of arrival of the family in Sandy Creek is unknown. It is known however, that Stephen,
in October 1822 or 1825 married Mary Smith who was born
in Sandy Creek in 1807. And according to land records, the
Thrasher family at an early date, purchased from the Pierrepont Estate considerable amounts of farm land in the northwestern part of the Town of Sandy Creek in what is known as the Goodenough District.

Jonathan Thrasher died in Sandy Creek in the year of 1837 and in 1845, his son Stephen moved from Sandy Creek, where his four children had all been born, to Elk Creek Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania, and died there in 1859.
