Mary Ann Hunter was married three times. (Divorced from) Major James Powell who died in the Civil War at Shiloh, leaving her with *Jimmy* (who was with his father for seven years ~ from age five ~ while in the 1st US Infantry and had to find his way home after his father's death), Winfield Scott, and Albert Tracy. Mary Ann then had two children, Fanny (who died in 1865) and Mathilda, by Obediah Stafford (died of cholera in 1863); and at least four with last husband, William Adams.

In the 1900 census, she's noted as having had ten children with eight living; Fannie died in 1865, and Tracy in 1869.
