Elizabeth Birdwell, daughter of John Birdwell and Mary Allen Birdwell, was born in Sullivan County, Tennessee. According to the gravemarker her date of birth was 1 Jan 1800, but according to her father's bible she was born on 31 Dec 1797. There is one publication that has her birthday erroneously as 1 June 1764, which was manually corrected to 1797, but wsa still in error.

Elizabeth married first James Isbell (1793-1844) in Madison County which was then in Mississippi Territory; and her sister Sarah H. Birdwell married James Isbell's brother Levi Isbell in Madison County, Mississippi Territory in 1816.

Their descendants belong to the First Families of Alabama, a designation of the Alabama Genealogical Society.

Elizabeth's son, James Isbell Jr., married his cousin through the Birdwell family line, Clarissa Crittenden.

Son Zachariah Isbell, named for ancestors on the Isbell line and the Birdwell line who were named Zachariah Isbell and Zachariah Birdwell. He fought in the War Between the States and was killed during a conflict.

Elizabeth Birdwell Isbell was widowed in 1844 with the death of James Isbell. Elizabeth married her second husband, John E Conway, ca 1847 in Jackson County, Alabama.She was widowed a second time in 1853.
