CHESAPEAKE – Opal Settle Beard, 88, of the 4100 block of Second Street, Portlock, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 10, 2006 at her home. Born in Keyser, WV and raised in Richardsville, VA, she was the daughter of the late Grover C. and Virginia Embrey Settle and the wife of the late Clyde V. Beard. A resident of Portlock for over 62 years, she retired from W.T. Grant in Norfolk after 18 years. She was a member of Rosemont Christian Church and the Betty Gibson Bible Class. She is survived by three daughters; Kathryn DeGarmo and her husband, Dwain of Longeville, MN, Dorothy Carneal of Sandston, VA, and Joyce Beard of Portlock; a son Ed Beard and his wife, Bobbie of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Debra Pride, Darrin DeGarmo, Courtney Melchor, Chris Carneal, and Ashley Beard; five great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and her beloved cat, Tabatha. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake with Rev. Jerry Kilyk officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park, Norfolk. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
