Daniel Everhart was born June 3, 1844 (as calculated from age of death), the son of Daniel & Sarah "Sallie" Mohr Everhart. In 1860, he was a laborer working for farmer Henry Hake in Manchester Township, York County, which may be how he met Mary Jane. He stood 5' 6" tall and had dark hair and brown eyes.
He enlisted in Lancaster August 22, 1864, with Co. B, 45th Pa Inf. Following his release from capture, he was discharged on a surgeon's certificate per general order on June 7, 1865.
