Daniel Snyder was the son of John Snyder (Schneider) and Hannah Marie Feuring. He married Mary Letitia Keister, daughter of Daniel Keister and Matilda Graffius, 5 Dec 1860 at Bucyrus, Crawford County, Ohio.
In April of 1861, when the Civil War was declared, Daniel enlisted in the Union Army. He served for three months before being mustered out. He re-enlisted in the 49th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, serving the Union Army until the end of the war.
In 1866, Daniel and Lettie left Ohio and moved to Illinois. Daniel, who was a carpenter by trade, worked on the Mississippi River Eads Bridge at St. Louis, Missouri. Later, he had a job finishing passenger coaches for the I. & S.L. railroad.
In 1886, they moved to Clark County, Kansas, where they farmed and raised cattle with their son, William Snyder. Around 1892, Daniel and Lettie moved to Ashland, Kansas where he served four years as register of deeds, four years as probate judge and two years as mayor. For fifty-one years he was a member of the Masonic Order. He was a charter member of the Ashland lodge and served as its treasure for thirty-three years. He was also a charter member of the Eastern Star chapter of Ashland and for thirty-three years was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge. Daniel was one of Clark County's best known and most honored pioneer citizens.
In the fall of 1925, due to Daniel's ill health, he and Lettie moved to Bucklin, Kansas to live with their son, William and his family.
Preceding Daniel in death were two young sons. Surviving were his wife, Lettie, plus one son and one daughter, William Kester Snyder and Alice Matilda Skelton.
Daniel and Letitia were both members of the Ashland Methodist Church.
