US Presidential Cabinet Secretary. He served as the 9th United States Secretary of Agriculture during the Administration of President Calvin Coolidge from 1925 until 1929. Born in Idaho, he attended the Agricultural College of Utah, from where he received his Bachelor of Science degree. He served as a professor at the Graduate School of Utah and went on to a position as a scientist at the research station of the Kansas State Agricultural College; the later he became president. During his tenure as Secretary of Agriculture, he was a proponent of the formation of Farm Cooperatives. He served as an ambassador to Egypt from 1930 until 1933 and following this period, he returned to Kansas where he served as Minister of Finance under Governor Alf Landon. Jardine later returned to his academic roots and served as President of the Municipal University of Wichita.
